With age, skin becomes lax and lined. The supportive collagen fiber network starts giving way as collagen gets damaged and depleted. While dermatologists have various techniques at hand to counteract or reverse the visible effect of collagen loss, an ideal solution would be one that can actually reverse the basic problem.
Resurfacing of the skin, stimulates the collagen network and rejuvenates the skin.
The eMatrix E-two technology works on skin rejuvenation with a unique combination of the SublativeTM and SublimeTM applications. The underlying principle is that when any part of the skin is injured, adjacent areas of skin rush in to provide healing. The eMatrix Sublative technique, mainly used for Acne Scar Reduction, leverages fractional bipolar radio frequency (RF) energy which is safe and suitable for all skin types and skin colours. RF energy is directed deep into the dermal layer of skin through a treatment tip that contains tiny probes. This action induces a skin injury in the targeted areas, in a safe and harmless way. Now this is just what’s needed to activate cells which produce collagen and other fibers (also known as fibroblasts) in these zones. The areas left untouched help support the injured tissue by accelerating the healing process. With an increase in collagen, there is a clear improvement in skin tone and skin texture.
The SublimeTM technology is a fast and relatively painless wrinkle reduction and rejuvenation treatment which contours the facial tissues by stimulating collagen production.
RF current, from the SublativeTM RF applicator, reaches the dermal layer which resists the electrical current by distributing the heat. As a result there are varied heat zones created, each with its own thermal biological effect.
Firstly, there is an ablation (removal of tissue) caused by evaporation due to very high heat (80 to 100ºC) where the tips of the electrodes make direct contact with the epidermis (top layer of the skin).
Then, in the dermis below and around the ablation zone there is coagulation or necrosis (50-80ºC). This coagulation leads to skin tightening.
Finally, below and around the coagulation zone the heating is lower (40-50ºC) and it stimulates new collagen formation without any tissue destruction.
SublimeTM technology significantly increases the growth of new collagen by using energy from infrared light and bi-polar radio frequencies. This delivers controlled ‘deep dermal heating’ which stimulates collagen production.
Best of all, eMatrix SublativeTM Rejuvenation treatment minimises the risk of post-treatment hyperpigmentation as compared with lasers, because the RF energy is not absorbed by the pigment-producing cells.
eMatrix technology gives you smooth rejuvenated skin in a single sitting. The session could last 20-40 minutes and it is effective on any skin type. Since the treatment can be directed at the appropriate skin layer, it produces dramatic results.
SublativeTM technology has minimal downtime since it causes low epidermal disruption. It improves textural irregularities, skin laxity and superficial skin lesions. It also removes wrinkles, and scars.
SublimeTM technology also has virtually no downtime or side effects. A few people may experience mild reddening for a ‘short-term’ few hours after the treatment.
Here are a couple of things you should avoid in the days leading up to the treatment in order for it to take full effect.
7 Days Before
- Products which contain Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid(BHA), Retinols and Retinoid, Hydroquinone, Tazorac and Differin.
- Prolonged sun exposure and artificial tanning.
- Cosmetic treatments like chemical peels, laser hair removal, Botox®, and dermal fillers.
- If you experience breakouts before your treatment, are prone to cold sores or have used Accutane or similar products, speak to your dermatologist before you proceed.
While you can be up and about soon after the treatment, it takes anywhere between 3 – 7 days after the treatment for the redness and swelling to completely disappear.
You might feel a warm, prickly sensation during the treatment and have a slightly sunburnt appearance after. It’s not uncommon. It fades quickly. But your skin will need a different care regime in the days following your treatment. Here’s what you should and shouldn’t do.
Do
- Moisturise your skin often during the recovery process.
- Avoid direct sunlight as much as possible and use an SPF 30 sunscreen to keep sun damage at bay.
- Speak to your dermatologist if you experience any side effects or complications.
Don’t
- Touch, rub, scratch or massage the treated area for up to 24 hours.
- Wear makeup for 6 – 12 hours after the treatment.
- Exfoliate your skin for the next seven days.
- Carry out any strenuous physical activity.

The Legacy of Emirati Women Achievers
It’s hard not to be moved when you look at the journey of women in the Middle East, especially here in the UAE.
