Age Control begins with you

Haven’t you often marvelled at those celebs who seem to look better with age? Those ‘then’ and ‘now’ pictures that make you wonder how they defy the laws of nature? Here’s the thing. Leaving aside tales and fables of strange and dangerously exotic therapies, there are some cues we can take to tackle time in our own beautiful way.

Youth is a choice you make.

It’s all about attitude and how you wear it. It’s about looking at challenges as opportunities. Don’t we all know someone in her fab 40’s whose idea of a rocking holiday consists of a quick climb or a tough trek? And, well, a 20-something who sighs with a weariness beyond her years? It’s really about the age you assign yourself.

That’s why, we at Kaya, the region’s largest chain of skin clinics, decided to recognise the Forever Young. We’ve created a cool Facebook tool that we titled as…well…Forever Young. It is designed to help you express your admiration for your idol through a gallery of awesome e-cards. The message can be personalised and then posted to your nominee’s page for the world to see. And you can nominate as many people as you like.

Before we delve into secrets to eternal youth, let’s understand skin ageing, which in many cases occurs prematurely.

The science of ageing. The art of not doing so.

Ageing affects all three layers of the skin i.e. the epidermis (the outermost layer, which has 5 sub-layers); the dermis (the middle layer) and the subcutaneous layer (self-explanatory, isn’t it?). Now ageing leaves a mark on all the layers and is of two different types. Type 1 is called Intrinsic Ageing, which means that ageing itself is the cause of ageing. Confused? Don’t be – we’re just talking about the effect of time, which dries up the skin, decreasing collagen and elastin fibres while increasing lines, wrinkles, discolouration, age spots and freckles. Type 2 is called Extrinsic Ageing, which comes about with external factors such as smoking, pollution, overexposure to sun, an improper diet, lack of sleep and much more.

But hey, ageing is nothing to worry about when you embrace it. Intelligently. Beautifully.

It’s not about taking treatments. It’s about taking control.

At Kaya, our customers benefit from the region’s largest pool of dermatological knowledge, gained over more than a decade of meticulous research. They receive customised strategies that address individual needs to help them go beautifully through their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond.

Not surprisingly, however, our dermatologists’ first piece of advice is plain good sense. Kick smoking and other unhealthy habits, make sure you regularly use sunscreens and moisturizers, drink ample water and get enough sleep. Also use exfoliation products such as AHAs or Jojoba oil. You’ll be surprised how healthy and young your skin will start to look.

As you go along, there may be times when you feel your skin needs expert help and professional treatment. Our expert dermatologists will guide you and suggest a tailor-made approach that caters specifically to your skin type. The treatment may include peels and Microdermabrasion to remove dead skin cells and help build collagen to reduce lines and wrinkles while putting suppleness back into your skin. The dermatologist may also advice injectables that relax facial stress, reduce laugh lines and crow’s feet and fill out a bit of contour here and there. All in all, helping you say a firm ‘no’ to ageing.

So if you thought that enduring youthfulness is the exclusive preserve of pampered celebrities… you’re right. And it’s you who is the pampered celebrity. Treat yourself so. Simply ensure that you truly look after your outlook!
